Color Palettes for the Home This Autumn
Earth Tones and Warm Neutrals are the ideal decorating palette this season. Crisp white, creamy oatmeal hues, sandy tans, muted greens, terracotta reds, dusty pinks, coppery reds, stormy greys, and muted golden tones are perfectly suited. These colors all work together to create a warm, inviting, yet soothing interior space.
Interesting Textures, Details, and Patterns for the Home This Autumn
This season is all about bringing the outdoors to the indoors. We’re seeing an upward trend in lighter, warmer wood tones and wood furniture accents. Grey wood is giving way to sandy toned birch, light ash, natural pine, and warm cedar. If your home features a lot of grey accents in framing, flooring, or beams, you needn’t worry! They make a great contrast for warmer wood elements such as furniture, frames, coffee tables, stools, and even wooden bowls or serving/cutting boards.
Wallpaper and fabric options vacillate between botanical vines, muted florals, and even celestial, starry patterns. Conversely, simple geometric shapes such as triangles, rays, and rectangles done with textural interest can be great accents in solid, neutral painted interiors.
In keeping with the natural theme, accents of woven elements and natural textiles such as raffia, jute, hemp, linen, cotton rope are all adding texture and dimension to the neutral earth tone palette. They complement the autumnal and woodsy, botanical palette. Tapestries, natural fiber throw blankets, cane element chairs, rattan accessories or furniture, reed or rope baskets, and even woven light/lamp shades are great options.
Accessorizing the Space for Autumn

Need some more depth and visual interest in your designscape? Large leafed palms in deep green hues, tall and spiky snake plants, variegated trailing houseplants, potted ferns, freshly cut seasonal florals, dried floral arrangements with feather accents, willow and rattan wreaths, bundles of dried rainbow jewel corn, and dried gourd focal items are all gorgeous options that can add a botanical burst of color and texture.

Accent elements include matte finish ceramic vases, curved clay sculptures, rough cut gem slices, cement candle vessels are placed alongside delicate items such as hand blown glass gourds, pumpkins, bowls, and bud vases for visual interest. The opposing elements of rough and smooth, shiny and matte, detailed and minimalist work well to draw the eye around the space and create a dynamic feeling.
Throw pillows in velvet, linen, chunky knits, woven look, and vintage fabrics draw the eye and hearken to the changing weather pattern from warm to cool. Ottomans that look like mushrooms, pillowy pumpkin poufs, and tufted floor pillows add a softness to round out the rough and rustic natural fibers and wood items.
