We’re bringing back the Pinto Carpentry Community Calendar series, a monthly blog where we round up the best and most exciting events around New Jersey! Today, we’re focusing on special events with our Community Calendar of Events for June in Middlesex and Union Counties. You’ll find live dance events, free concert series, Pride month celebrations, art exhibits, DIY Maker and Creative classes, and so much more. Today, June 5th from 12PM to 2PM at The Yard in New Brunswick, enjoy a free concert presented by New Brunswick Cultural Center and Hub City Jazz for music, fresh air, and fun!
Today June 5th, the Piscataway Public Library in Piscataway is hosting the MIY Makerspace event with “Wonderful Weaving for Teens” from 6:30 to 7:30PM this evening.

Tonight, June 5th at the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library, enjoy a free Evening of Jazz with the MRB Jazz Project at 6PM.
Tonight, June 5th at the Kenilworth Public Library, the public is welcomed to a free concert by Ruben Castillo for “Elivistory: The King Returns to Camelot” beginning at 7PM.
The 2025 New Jersey International Film Festival takes place at Rutgers University on Hamilton Street with showtimes beginning at 5PM and 7PM per movie screening. Singer-songwriters Mike Kovacs will also be sharing a hybrid audio-visual concert on June 13th. Gen Admission tickets are $15 per program with student tickets available on-site for $10 per program.
The American Hungarian Foundation in New Brunswick is hosting “Farewell Winter” a photography exhibit by Daniel Palko through June 20th.

The Raices Cultural Center in New Brunswick is hosting “The Peruvian Charango: Tradition and Innovation” event from 7PM to 8:30PM on Friday, June 6th.
Friday June 6th at 8PM and Saturday June 7th at 3PM, The Celebration Singers Adult and Youth Choirs will perform “Beyond the Horizon”, a celebration of music both old and new. Hosted by the Presbyterian Church of Westfield; tickets range from $15-$20, and kids under 9 are free.

Union County’s 2nd Annual Pride 5K and Fun Color Run is happening on June 7th starting at 8AM at Oak Ridge Park! Competitive folks can elect to run in the official 5k, or those looking for a more relaxed, fun-spirited experience can participate in the Color Run where walkers and runners alike are showered with a rainbow of colored eco-safe powders.
On June 7th at Cedar Brook Park in Plainfield is hosting “Rhythym & Blues by the Brook”, a free concert experience from 12PM to 6PM. Events include a kids play zone with obstacles and inflatables, a health and wellness fair, and an all-day car show event complete with food trucks, vendors, and marketplace!
Opening on June 7th, the EARTH Center Butterfly House Grand Opening event in North Brunswick is happening from 10AM to noon, and visiting hours will be available from 10AM to 12PM from June, July, and August.
On June 19th from 4PM to 6PM in New Brunswick, join in the community celebration and flag raising ceremony for Juneteenth starting at 4PM at Livingston Avenue. There will be music, art, vendors, live entertainment, food and drink, community networking, refreshments, a chalk mural, and more! This event is free and walk-ins are welcomed.
On June 21st (and the 3rd Saturday of every month) come down to Melao Cafe and Creamery in Rahway for “What’s the Word!” a Spoken Word/Poetry event from ACP Arts Ink. This poetry open mic event will take place from 6PM to 9PM.
The HUB City Pride Brunch of New Brunswick is hosted this year by the State Theatre. Tickets are $50 with discounts to military, first responders, and nurses of 20% off. Brunch kicks off at 11AM on Sunday, June 22nd, and will feature performances by Lady Celestina and music by DJ IZM with a buffet brunch by Fritz’s. Door prizes include show tickets, restaurant gift cards and more!
The 4th Annual New Brunswick Skateboarding Giveback Event is going down on June 21st 10AM to 5PM with a raindate of June 22nd. You’ll enjoy printmaking, posters and griptape with Wolfbat Studio. There will also be a 100 free skateboards giveaway with custom artwork, skate shoes, and helmets given to kids!
On June 23rd from 6PM to 8PM on Monday, head down to Thompson Park in Monroe Township for an evening of community convening on Local Birding, Ecology, and unveiling of a new Public Mural design with RH Doaz. RH Doaz will also be speaking about his previous public art installations around central NJ, as well as offering a drawing session to offer your ideas for inspiration in the upcoming design!
The Annual 2025 Summer Fair for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs is coming to the Warinanco Sports Center in Roselle on Sunday July 27th from 11AM to 1PM. There will be music, games, activities, a petting zoo, food and drink, and much more. The event celebrates the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act! Register today for your free admission.
On June 27th at Bayview Park on the Perth Amboy Waterfront, put on your best dancing shoes from 5:30PM to 8:30PM free Salsa by the Bay Dance Event! Two hours of open salsas dancing and a one hour group lesson by Premier Latin DAnce SChools. Chef Deluxeme Food Truck will also be selling delicious fresh made food. Free Parking at the Perth Amboy Arena.
Bonus Community Calendar Secton: Where to Celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in New Jersey for 2025
Leonia Pride Event is taking place on Saturday June 7th from 2PM to 5PM at Wood Park with live entertainment, drag performances, vendors, arts and crafted items, food, and lots of community love!
North Jersey Pride Festival is coming to Maplewood on Sunday, June 8th from 12PM to 6PM at Memorial Park. It’s one of the largest and most exciting events for LGBTQ+ Pride in the tri-state area, and one not to be missed! Admission is free.
Atlantic City is hosting Atlantic Pride’s 4th Annual Rainbow Ride on Sunday, June 8th including the annual Pride Flag Raising event & Celebration at Hard Rock Atlantic City
Fort Lee Pride takes place on Sunday June 8th from 11AM to 2PM at the Fort Lee Recreation Center; this family friendly event features live music, kids activities and games, food trucks, and a vendor fair with local community resources.
Mahwah Pride takes place on June 25th from 6PM to 9PM at Commodore Perry Fields featuring live DJ, celebrity drag performance by Jenny Henny, info booths and community resources, a family-friendly area, vendors and marketplace, and more!
Morris County Pride Festival will take place on June 28th from 11AM to 4PM at County College of Morris. This family-friendly event is jam packed with excitement, games, performances, vendors, live entertainment, and all proceeds directly benefit LGBTQ+ organizations.
Newark Pride takes place from July 7th through 13th and is the 20th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Festival for the city, with the theme “Reclaiming OUR time: The Legacy of Resistance”. Pride Flag Raising Ceremony takes place on July 7th followed by a week long list of special events. Festivities will culminate on July 13th with the 20th Annual Pride Parade & Rally & Festival with afterparty event!
Jersey City LGBTQ+ Pride Festival takes place on Saturday August 23rd from 1PM to 9PM in Jersey City between Grove Street/Jersey Avenue/Newark Avenue; this year is the event’s 25th anniversary, with the theme “Speak Up, Stand Firm, & Stay Strong.”
